The Medical Affairs department at Gilead Sciences is currently seeking directors for the Oncology/Hematology Medical Science division. Successful candidates will be experienced, well-organized and results-oriented healthcare professionals with a proven track record of leadership. Selected directors will lead a team of field-based Medical Scientists engaged in the interpretation and communication of scientific knowledge. Essential Duties and Job Functions: Development and maintenance of positive professional relationships with current and emerging cardiovascular thought-leaders in the United States based on mutual respect and Gilead’s sincere interest in sharing its perspective on therapies for Oncology/Hematology malignancies, including but not limited to Gilead-marketed products, and obtaining feedback from the independent community of Oncology/Hematology healthcare professionals Timely, accurate and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to Oncology/Hematology healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and FDA regulatory requirements Provision of ongoing coaching, oversight and performance evaluation of cardiovascular MSs via active observation of the Oncology/Hematology team; establishment of clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative); implementation of processes to routinely monitor progress Successful integration of the MS roles within each MS’s assigned geography, including appropriate coordination with the local Gilead sales teams Coordination of Oncology/Hematology MS participation in Gilead advisory boards, symposia and educational programs, such as speaker training and conference planning Excellent operational execution, driving the development, deployment and appropriate use of field-based technologies to ensure timely and accurate reporting of in-bound data requirements Ongoing execution of strategic plans consistent with the Oncology/Hematology Medical Affairs Plan of Action Collaborate with colleagues in multiple other functional areas, including Clinical Research, Medical Services, Sales and Marketing Ensure MS compliance with applicable Pharma Code, OIG guidelines and Gilead policies Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PhD or PharmD strongly preferred) with experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare field required A minimum 8 years of relevant experience in a medically related endeavor (i.e., Oncology/Hematology field, with strong knowledge of the clinical research process, treatment landscape and guidelines); minimum of 3 years previous management/supervisory and/or MS field operations experience is preferred Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to evaluate competing priorities to arrive at appropriate decision Ability to develop and deliver high-quality presentations Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for field-based personnel and PhRMA guidelines, including geographic regulatory related guidelines Collaborative, team-based approach; ability to network and partner with internal and external stakeholders, including medical thought-leaders, academic institutions, large group practices, medical directors and pharmacy directors Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and resources Strong business skills/acumen; ability to translate scientific expertise and knowledge to achieve the identified business goals of the company Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required Ability to travel 50-60% of the time
