To learn more about Ashland, visit ****Description: **This position is located in Wilmington, DE. **This job is based on a job ladder structure and the job band (salary) will be determined based on the quality and quantity of your experience. As a Staff Scientist within Ashland Specialty Ingredients, you will support new product development via structure determination by NMR spectroscopy. You will be responsible for: The structural analysis of cellulose ethers and related polymers. Collaborating and conducting independent research in support of company’s R&D; projects Supporting technical service requests, pilot and commercial plant operations, intellectual property protection. Lead research projects in developing and validating NMR methodologies in support of structural and compositional analysis of complex macromolecular systems and provide structure-property relationships. Maintain safe working environment in the lab and comply with all environmental, health and safety requirements. Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in chemistry, polymer science or material science, or a related field with at least 2-5 years of experience in field of NMR spectroscopy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability in handling independent research projects. Strong background in solution NMR, multidimensional NMR and diffusion NMR. Experience with polymer NMR is a plus. Knowledge of other analytical characterization techniques including FT-IR, Mass spectrometry, GPC/SEC and rheology. Must have hands-on experience operating NMR spectrometers and routine maintenance. Ashland has a history of attracting the best people and keeping them.
