Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support large molecule (peptide, antibody, and protein), preclinical drug discovery efforts in the Department of Cardiovascular / Metabolic Disorders for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity. The major responsibilities of this position are 1) lead a group of scientists and apply expertise in islet biology to build scientific and technical capabilities in pancreatic -cell biology 2) to lead multifunctional drug discovery research teams from project initiation to clinical candidate selection 3) contribute to the assessment of external business alliances and in-licensing opportunities 4) participate in new target discovery teams to identify and propose new therapeutic approaches for treatment of T2D and 5) to instill scientific innovation through personal leadership.

Position Requirements
The ideal candidate must have in expert knowledge in T2D and islet biology/pathophysiology as evidenced by an outstanding publication record, proven track-record in leading successful preclinical drug discovery teams (preferably biologics) and/or academic laboratories, excellent management skills, including the ability to set high but reachable goals, define priorities, manage individual performance, and infuse the team with a sense of purpose and urgency, strong ability to influence scientific thinking and direction of multifunctional drug discovery projects, build and manage collaborations within and outside the organization, must be well organized with outstanding interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, and be able to manage several projects.
Education:
Senior Scientist: BS (15-17yr experience), MS (13-15yr) or PhD (7-10yr);
Principal Scientist: BS (17-20yr experience), MS (15-17yr) or PhD (11-13yr), in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or other relevant discipline with a specialization in Metabolic Disorders.
