Job Title MODELING AND ANALYSIS: Scientist I, Biophysical Modeling of Information Processing in the Cortex
Job Profile
Scientist I – Biophysical Modeling of Information Processing in the Cortex The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., located in Seattle, Washington, is comprised of a multidisciplinary staff committed to understanding how the brain works and helping to unlock the mysteries of neurological diseases and disorders affecting millions worldwide. Serving the scientific community is at the center of our mission to accelerate progress toward understanding the brain and neurological systems. In the position of Scientist I – Biophysical Modeling of Information Processing in the Cortex, a new member of our team will primarily study information flow in populations of modeled morphologically reconstructed neurons. A significant portion of the duties will be to build detailed biophysical models of individual neurons and employ them for construction of large-scale neuronal networks of increasing complexity according to the detailed data on organization of the cortex obtained by the Allen Institute’s experimental groups. The work will involve collaborations with these experimental groups and will be closely connected to the in-house research on reduced neuronal models and on physics of cortical tissue. RESPONSIBILITIES Construct detailed biophysical models of single neurons and their assemblies. Carry out simulations of such models to study mechanisms determining the flow and transformations of information in the cortex, in close collaboration with experimentalists. Work with others to develop software tools supporting modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts, to be released publicly within the Allen Institute’s resources. Publish/present findings in peer-reviewed journals/scientific conferences. Present a periodic summary of progress to the research community in the organization. QUALIFICATIONS PhD degree in neuroscience, biophysics, physics, or related fields. Strong background in scientific computing; experience in computational neuroscience is preferred, but other strong applicants will be considered (with background in computational physics, biophysics, and related disciplines). Experience with parallel computing is a plus. Strong publication record. Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. To be considered for this position, please visit our website: The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is an equal opportunity employer
