The Senior Scientist will identify, originate, and execute new project ideas in area of expertise. Recommends expansion or curtailment of research based on experimental results or scientific information. Anticipates needs and plans for the purchase, use, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Follows best established procedures and provides recommendations to conduct research. Drafts, executes and serves as lead author on peer reviewed manuscripts, tech reports and patent filings. Helps oversee and interpret experimental results from direct reports. Drives collaboration across research groups and communicates results to colleagues within project context. Sets priorities for experimental work to ensure adequate progress of team projects and objectives. Attends in-house seminars and participates in scientific meetings as appropriate to support team goals. Presents data and recommendations to outside consultants, at in-house research forums and at outside professional meetings. Hosts visiting outside scientists; likely to initiate and maintain external collaborations to advance specific projects

Ph.D. degree with post-doctoral experience and 3 years performing progressively advanced duties at the Scientist 4 level, or equivalent experience for non-Ph.D.s performing progressively advanced duties beyond the Scientist level is required Exceptional knowledge of basic and emerging concepts in type 2 diabetes to promote discovery-level target development at all stages is required
Demonstrated expertise in mechanisms that regulate insulin sensitivity and hepatic glucose production is required Significant direct experience with animal models of hyperglycemia and insulin resistance is required Hands-on experience with in vitro models of metabolic function and signal transduction is perferred Supervisory experience is preferred A strong track-record of publication in the area of metabolic disease is essential.
