Participate in identifying research areas that could lead to the development of new products. Investigate, create and develop new methods and technologies for new project advancement. Select and apply scientific techniques, procedures, or methodologies to complete tasks. Focus and prioritize projects and assume responsibility for their success. Maintain detailed and organized lab notebooks and research files. Write experimental protocols and prepare reports for internal or external publications. Have a collaborative attitude and work closely with other R&D; Scientists to ensure that new technologies are developed in an efficient and timely fashion. Interact with customers to address technical or regulatory questions and provide solutions to problems. Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. in Chemistry (with experience in organic or bioorganic research). Background and expertise in biochemistry and biology highly desirable. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, highly organized, motivated by accomplishment. Experience as an effective project team player, leader and motivator desired. Proven track record of accomplishments. SKILLS REQUIRED: Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong leadership abilities. Excellent scientific skills in experiment design, data collection, and problem solving. Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels of management within a team environment on a variety of programs and projects. Project management skills, including forecasting skills, project planning, and development of project timelines. Advanced computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) and statistical analysis (SAS or comparable program). Ability to work in a continually changing environment. Working Conditions: The Scientist position is based at Kemin Industries Discovery Research headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. The exempt-level position is considered to be 40 hours per week, but requires tremendous flexibility and may require operations monitoring on off-shifts including weekend and holiday work.
