Job Description:
[Employee directs and participates in surveys of archaeological and
anthropological sites; directs and reviews archaeological surveys and
excavation permitting and assists in 106/104 project review cases;
directs projects on archaeology and provides technical assistance to the
Division of Conservation and other divisions within the Utah Department
of Agriculture and Food (UDAF); conducts archaeological consultation and
field investigations,and works closely with the State Historical
Preservation Office (SHPO) to verify that all projects implemented by
UDAF programs have been properly evaluated and are in compliance with
state and federal archeological requirements. This job either requires
experience with a related BS/BA Degree or an MS/MS Degree in

Principal Duties:
Conducts archeological reviews for projects implemented by UDAF
programs.
Submits proper documentation to SHPO showing that undertakings being
proposed by UDAF programs have no adverse effects on historical
sites,or that proper mitigation and documentation of historical
sites is properly documented prior to project implementation.
Plans and manages projects and/or programs. Writes (or discusses)
project/program plan(s),recommendation(s) and/or finding(s).
Reviews cultural resource and contracts and submissions from
consultants/proponents on behalf of the Division.
Works closely with SHPO to train and certify para archeologist
within UDAF that will assist with Archeological reviews.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state
laws,regulations,and/or agency rules,standards and guidelines,etc.
Ideal Candidate:
Has extensive experience with a related BS/BA Degree or an MS/MS
Degree in Archaeology.
Have a high degree of self-motivation and work with minimal
supervision. Must work well with technical and professional
staff,elected officials,and local stakeholders.
Possess a valid Utah vehicle driver's license. This position
requires the use of a personal vehicle on both public and private
roads during daylight hours and after dark. Mileage will be
compensated for business use of personal vehicle.
