Associate Scientist II is responsible for performing assigned
experimental tasks to support the implementation of the next generation
manufacturing platform for Alexion's biotherapeutic candidates. This
role resides within the New Capabilities Process Development group and
will be focused on the advancement of Alexion's manufacturing
capabilities through the development and integration of innovative
technologies. The Associate Scientist II will work routinely in
collaboration with other members of New Capabilities Process
Development, Biologics Process Development, Technology Transfer and
Analytical Sciences, including all other groups in Product Development
and Clinical Supply. You will be responsible for:
Evaluates new process development technologies via design and
execution of experimental plans
Communicates experimental results via technical talks at internal
meetings and external conferences
Conducts experimental studies to develop, optimize, and characterize
manufacturing processes for biotherapeutic candidates
Executes experimental studies to support scale up of manufacturing
processes or troubleshooting of issues at manufacturing scale as
required for therapeutic proteins
Documents study results in notebooks, forms, and technical reports
Assists in laboratory management including ordering and maintenance
You will need to have:
BS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
or related discipline from an accredited university with 0- 1 years
of experience for MS or 2 years of experience with BS .
Understanding the fundamentals of biochemistry, chemistry and
chemical engineering
Strong learning agility and desire to learn new techniques
Good interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab
environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be
able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds
unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment
with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials;
gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone,
video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and
non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others;
maintain genera availability during standard business hours
We would prefer for you to have:
Experience in any area of biologics process development (cell
culture and/or purification)
Experience of performing chromatographic protein purification
Experience with Unicorn programming and operation of AKTA and other
chromatography skids
Experience with Design of Experiments Software (e.g. JMP).
Understanding/coursework in the fundamentals of biochemistry and/or
protein chromatography
Demonstrated ability to perform routine laboratory work with an
understanding of laboratory safety and good documentation
An understanding of the principles behind cell culture,
chromatography, or filtration (TFF and NFF)
