NETL is Hiring! The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (NETL) is seeking a superior candidate to join our Research and Innovation Center (RIC) Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) Directorate. RIC is committed to leveraging new and existing scientific expertise, facilities, equipment, and tools to address scientific and research challenges.
NETL's Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) Directorate is recognized for its ability to develop science-based simulation models, mathematical methods and algorithms, and software tools required to address the technical barriers to the development of next-generation energy technologies. NETL's CSE capability leverages three focus areas: computational materials engineering; computational device engineering; and artificial intelligence and machine learning with world-class expertise and facilities to enable NETL's simulation-based engineering approach for accelerating the development and deployment of novel energy materials, processes, and device designs. World-class tools developed include the Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems (IDAES) process systems engineering computational platform and MFiX multiphase flow modeling.
NETL's CSE capability collaborates with other NETL research and development capabilities to generate information and promote understanding beyond the reach of experiments alone. Through the integration of experimental information and computational sciences, scientists and engineers can simulate variations in materials and devices and determine optimal compositions and designs with less risk and at reduced cost. Application of Computational Science capabilities increases resource recovery rates, develops cybersecurity for energy infrastructure, optimizes energy system performance, reduces the time required to develop new materials, develops modular low-carbon energy plants, and reduces the time for decision making.
The incumbent of this position will serve as a Federal Researcher (Interdisciplinary General Engineer/Physical Scientist) in the CSE Directorate and will report directly to the Computational Device Engineering (CDE) Team Supervisor. The CDE team supports the collaborative development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and associated software tools. The purpose of these activities is to apply cutting edge CFD simulation tools to investigations of energy and carbon management technologies that will minimize the environmental impact of fossil fuels and contribute to meeting the national goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Emphasis is placed on the simulation of complex multiphase, reacting flows using supercomputing resources for the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of novel chemical reactors and other multiphase devices for advanced energy conversion and environmental applications. Our CDE researchers develop algorithms and computational software for high performance computers, including Exa-scale computers, and have access to NETL's Joule2 supercomputer. This GS-14/15 position will join a team of 6 federal research staff executing a research portfolio exceeding $40M in fiscal year 2022.
RIC utilizes a Matrix operational model designed to deliver excellence in research products while exercising the technical core competencies of the laboratory through multi-disciplinary teams spanning directorates and including staff, senior technical leaders, and management. The incumbent will possess a substantial record of scholarly achievements and demonstrated experience and skill in: Producing quality peer reviewed publications in highly regarded journals, and quality peer reviewed reports having significant technical impact Submitting provisional invention disclosures, patent applications and software codes Delivering technical presentations at a notable venues of scientific relevance Perform inherently federal functions, including but not limited to technical project monitor (TPM) and technology portfolio lead (TPL). How to Apply. Resumes will be accepted for this position until March 31, 2023.
