Chan School of Public Health, we are a team of distinguished physicians, scientists, and public health researchers working to address failures in healthcare systems at critical moments in people’s lives.
Over the next three to five years, the Childbirth Program will design, test, and spread a scalable health system intervention that can decrease the skyrocketing number of unnecessary cesarean deliveries (c-sections) that are being performed across the United States. Our ultimate aim is to significantly improve the safety, affordability, and experience of care for millions of mothers and babies, while establishing best practices for designing solutions that can scale across disparate and complex health systems.
The childbirth innovation fellow will contribute to all aspects of project development, implementation, and evaluation, and will be expected to take the ownership of specific scientific research objectives. The fellow will work closely with other scientists and clinicians to design and test interventions, analyze data, and communicate findings that can improve childbirth in the US.
The fellow will:
Lead research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Neel Shah, including review and synthesis of extant literature, expert consultation, research protocol development, data analysis and communication of results
Organize, prepare materials for and participate in large multi-disciplinary stakeholder meetings
Contribute clinical expertise to support quality assurance of system interventions
Draft manuscripts and other written work products
Provide support for grant development
Participate and present at scientific conferences
Help supervise and mentor research assistants
Please note: This is a grant funded position with a two-year term and a possibility for extension. Limited travel may be required.
Basic Qualifications
Advanced training in obstetrics/gynecology, midwifery, nursing or related experience is preferred, but other domain experts (e.g. surgery, family medicine) will also be considered. Post-doctoral clinicians preferred.
Eligible candidates will have a strong interest in health systems innovation with focus on childbirth. Previous experience in public health, medical/clinical studies, health policy, healthcare management.
Experience in scientific research and writing, including basic familiarity with statistical methods software. Deep methodological expertise is not required. Experience with
SAS
STATA
, R preferred.
Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated analytical skills, ability to work in a matrixed environment and be part of a cross-functional team. Fluency with clinical terminology and healthcare data a plus.
