Profile

Lilly Neuroscience is seeking an associate-level scientist (Bachelors or Masters) to join the Neurodegeneration Molecular Pathology Group to facilitate its mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other related neurodegenerative conditions. Under supervision of a Research Scientist, the individual will conduct research focused on developing therapeutics in close collaboration with other Neurodegeneration laboratories and Lilly’s chemistry and biotherapeutic engineering divisions. An important focus of the researcher will be the development and implementation of in vitro/in vivo blood brain barrier (BBB) receptor-mediated transport models. The individual must possess strong hands-on bench and rodent experience, a keen interest to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie non-invasive drug delivery to the CNS, and have an exceptional attention to scientific detail.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Run mammalian cell culture assays to study receptor mediated internalization and transcytosis.
Master the techniques of dosing, blood/tissue collection from rodents, perfusions, immunohistochemistry as well as pharmacokinetic studies.
Perform extensive biochemical analysis on samples from in vitro/in vivo studies that include ELISA assays as well as colony forming unit counts using phage display systems.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience or a related field
Minimum 2 years of post-degree relevant academic or industry experience

Additional Skills/Preferences
Strong skills and significant hands on experience in developing/performing/problem solving mammalian cell culture assays (cell lines/primary cells), in vivo pharmacokinetic studies including dosing (IP/IV), blood collection, perfusions, tissue collection, and performing ELISA-type assays and histology.
Molecular biology expertise including bacterial culture, recombinant protein expression and western blot.
Have accurate and timely record keeping and strong data analysis and organizational skills.
Must be able to clearly communicate data to the supervisor and be able to work independently in order to design and troubleshoot experiments.
Experience in the area of Neurodegenerative disease
Industry experience with in vitro/ in vivo assay development and drug discovery.
Experience with phage display library.
Additional Information
FDE Only-This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.
