A scientist who studies living organisms is known as a biologist. Biologists usually specialize in one area, for example, zoologists study animals, botanists study plants, microbiologists study microscopic forms of life, marine biologists study animals living in the ocean, wildlife biologists specialize in wildlife research and management and so on. Although biologists may specialize in different fields, their basic responsibility is to conduct research and develop and supervise research programs. Other duties include
collecting and analyzing biological data to determine environmental effects, recording data, informing government and federal agencies regarding research results, planning and conducting special inspections of existing projects to see that all legal and other requirements are met and providing operational and logistical support for testing, equipment set up and research.
Biologist job openings are available to candidates with a bachelors degree in biological sciences from an accredited college or university. Supervisory and research positions usually require a masters degree or a PhD. Good interpersonal, organizational, writing and communication skills are also important.
