Research scientists oversee and direct scientific research and development activities. It is the responsibility of the research scientist to develop and implement innovative methods to support and enhance research. A research scientist will perform scientific research, provide technical guidance, and provide expertise for planning and implementing research and development programs.
Research scientists may work in a wide range of scientific fields. Research scientist job duties may also include researching and conducting specific projects, collecting and analyzing samples, maintaining effective laboratory operations, training junior laboratory personnel and applying for funding and research grants.
The minimum qualification required for a research scientist job is a bachelor�s degree in science in area of specialization (general engineering, life sciences etc) from an accredited college. However, a master�s degree or a PhD is required for supervisory positions. Previous work experience in a research environment is a plus. Effective communication, computer and mathematical skills are also required.
