Forensic Scientist Jobs

Forensic scientists apply scientific methods and knowledge to solve legal problems and help criminal investigations. Forensic scientist job openings are available with state, federal, local law enforcement and private investigative agencies. The main responsibility of a forensic scientist is to apply the techniques of science to analyze the various types of evidence recovered from vehicles, victims and crime scenes.
Providing expert court testimony, fingerprinting, analyzing handwriting, training law enforcement people in the proper handling of physical evidence and preserving evidence to help solve cases are also part of a forensic scientist’s job. Other duties include testing tissue samples, preparing reports of findings, maintaining quality control methods, examining blood, urine, and postmortem human organs etc for toxicological purposes. Reading forensic literature, attending seminars, workshops etc and keeping up to date with new procedures of laboratory analysis are also part and parcel of a forensic scientist’s job.
Minimum educational qualification for a forensic scientist job opening is a bachelor’s degree in forensic science, physical science or natural science. Proficient communication skills and knowledge of statistics, toxicology, biochemistry etc is also important.
