Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.Must be able to oversee and work productively with subcontractors while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are adhered to.Must be able to work outdoors year-round at retail service stations and other petroleum facilities in urban or other settings.Must be able to use hand bailers or purge pumps to purge monitoring wells or potable wells, collect groundwater samples or other groundwater data, record data for use by others, prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or other paperwork.Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.Must be able to safely drive a full-size pickup truckMust be able to work with others in a fast-paced, team environment but must be able to perform field work independently of others Job Description: Candidate's primary responsibilities will include:- Collect both field and bibliographic environmental data.- Assesses and interprets data.- Plans, executes, analyzes and reports on the impact of environmental issues to natural systems- Conducts or participates in environmental studies and prepares environmental reports addressing contaminant-impacts on environment.- Applies knowledge of natural sciences (chemical physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain phenomena.- Studies contaminants and determine how to restore the environment.- May apply principles of natural sciences for engineering projects.Candidate will be more specificially responsible for collecting environmental samples from soil, water, and air; installing monitoring wells using hollow-stem auger, air rotary, or direct-push methods; describing soil samples; supervising safe work of subcontractors; assisting with data assessments and report preparations; and other duties as assigned.Candidate will be working on retail petroleum sites, terminals, pipelines, and refineries where safe working habits are mandatory. Candidate will learn and apply investigation techniques and remediation techniques for soil, groundwater, and air. Some use of full-face air purifying respirators may be necessary.Will use hand-bailers or purge pumps to purge monitoring wells or potable wells, collect groundwater samples and other groundwater data, record data for use by others, prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody and other paperwork.Some travel may be required - work sites are primarily in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, West Virginia, and District of Columbia.
