Job Description
Responsibilities include: Responsible for conducting research to understand the nature and connections of the magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. Observe, interpret, and develop theories to explain these physical phenomena using mathematics and first-principles theoretical models. Measurements will be made using a variety of space sensors including ionosonodes, magenetometers, incoherent scatter radars, and Global Positioning System radio propagation equipment. From these measurements, the research physicist will apply the knowledge gained to study and solve some of the compelling questions that remain in space physics. Work in team environment to design and perform sophisticated experiments to measure the phenomena of interest. May be required to assemble and set-up equipment and initiate the data analysis at remote sites. Must publish research results in peer reviewed journals and present results at national and international conferences. Upon agreement with academic department, may be required to teach either a complete course or specific lectures in Space Physics. Limited travel will be required to conduct research and present work. Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: PhD or the equivalent in Physics or related, plus one (1) year of experience in Physics or a related position.
Special Requirements: Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, Training or experience. Applicants must also possess one (1) year in each of the following (may be gained concurrently):
1. Operation of digital ionosondes, including remote control and field experiments.
2. Analysis of the large-scale ionospheric phenomena using digital ionosonde network, including ionospheric storms, spread-F, and F3 layer.
