THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Soils Scientist 2 is responsible for possessing a working and technical knowledge of the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537), the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law, Chapters 71 and 73 of the Rules and Regulations, and any other Department regulations or policies pertaining to soils related disposal of sewage. The position applies knowledge of Pennsylvania Code Title 25, Chapter 271.901, Subchapter J, as it relates to the Beneficial Use of Sewage Sludge by Land Application on an as-assigned basis. The incumbent will provide technical support for Office of Field Operations soils related projects, and conduct Office of Field Operations inspections of Department permitted wastewater land application systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment.
Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Soils Scientist 1;or
Five years of experience in soil classification, mapping, and interpretation and fifteen semester hours of soil science; or
A Bachelor's Degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Agriculture, Conservation, or Environmental Science including at least fifteen credits of soil science course work and one year experience in soil classification, mapping and interpretation;or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:
This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
