The Integrated Mission Operations Group at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. has an opening for a Data Scientist to work at our John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi location. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience and training in support of the U.S. Navy Oceanography Program. In this mission, we support the Navy’s responsibility to execute operational oceanography; meteorology; precise time and astrometry; and Geospatial Information and Services (GI&S;) to the operating forces of the Navy and (DoD). The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (NAVMETOCCOM), with its subordinate organizations, such as the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), is responsible for compiling, processing, assessing, and analyzing oceanographic, atmospheric, and other types of environmental data, which have a critical impact on naval operations.
As a data scientist, you will perform as a vital part of NAVOCEANO's embedded team that develops and maintains operational software and data systems and products used by military and civilian personnel supporting (primarily) undersea warfare. This Data Scientist opportunity is a full-time position at the Stennis Space Center embedded with our customers. and is not remote. This opportunity requires an active Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a higher clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
This is not your standard support services position – you will work with scientific data, numerical models, geospatial systems, Navy-standard algorithms, high resolution databases and technical experts with unique and exciting mission-critical requirements!

Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop and utilize methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse and/or large data sets from disparate sources.
Develop and/or use advanced statistical concepts, algorithms, querying and automated processes to clean, model, integrate and evaluate complex datasets and production problems for practical Naval Oceanography applications.
Identify meaningful insights and interpret and communicate findings and recommendations. May develop information tools, algorithms, dashboards, and queries to monitor and improve performance. Maintains awareness of emerging analytics and big-data technologies.
Work alongside software engineers for configuration management, data management/analysis, cyber reviews and documentation, and testing as well as during production/operations
Assist in scientific data processing/analysis or geospatial mapping activities as needed
Work as part of small project teams, and independently, per project planning guidance
Work as/with project leads to ensure all activities meet technical, schedule and cost goals
Utilize sound interpersonal skills to communicate progress, problems and potential issues and risks
Meet all physical security and information assurance requirements for performing on operational Navy classified and unclassified networks.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a technical or business field and at least 4 years' relevant experience. Additional years of experience and/or relevant certifications will be considered in lieu of degree.
Working knowledge and experience with NAVOCEANO production department data, processes and products, including the Oceanographic and Atmospheric Model Library (OAML) software, data and processes
Working knowledge and experience performing environmental (e.g. bathymetric) data manipulation and analysis in Windows and Linux operating environments
Experience with relevant database technologies , in particular the Navy Digital Bathymetric Database (variable resolution)
Understand and use deep technical knowledge to develop and solve technical solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS products and workflows
Working knowledge executing, troubleshooting and modifying scripts (e.g. python, shell)
Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics (A/B Testing, Regression, etc.)
Working knowledge of scientific data handling and processing
Working knowledge of the NAVOCEANO unclassified and classified computing environments

Pay Range:Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00
