A Natural Resource Specialist job is available with The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge of the City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department. This is a Full-Time position working 40 hours per week with benefits. Working weekends and holidays is required.
The Natural Resource Specialist job responsibilities include:
Operate various types of equipment to include mowers, trimmers, power tools, tractors, skid steer, UTV's, welders, and other equipment as needed; as well as conducting maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
Assist the Natural Resource Manager with the planning & implementation of natural resource management activities such as prescribed burning, herbicide application, wildlife monitoring, invasive species removal, native vegetation management, trail maintenance, and bison management.
Manage the FWNC&R; native plant greenhouse program which includes; recruit, train, and retain volunteers specific to the program; provide plant material for restoration projects; implement educational programs, public outreach events, and large volunteer groups; maintain data and submit reports.
Assist with and conduct various levels of data collection and research throughout the FWNC&R; on the local flora and fauna; use programs/systems such as GIS, GPS, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook for data analysis and reporting.
Provide written information/articles for newsletters, professional journals, and monthly/annual reports.
Assist the FWNC&R; education team with organizing and implementing natural resource educational public outreach programs; assist with developing and implementing workshops; assist with special events; provide quality customer service in a positive, courteous and professional manner.
Ability to work within a team as well as independently with little to no supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a natural or physical science, including biology, geology, botany, range management, environmental science, forestry, or a related field.
One year of experience working in a natural science field providing group instruction and/or developing and implementing natural resource management plans.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a Pesticide Applicator's License
2 years of professional experience, not associated with the pursuit of undergraduate or graduate degree programs, within wildlife management, biology, geology, botany, range management, environmental science, forestry, or a related field.
Ability to identify native flora and fauna applicable to the Cross Timbers and Prairies Ecoregion with demonstrated experience with data collection and analysis pertaining to local flora and fauna.
Experience in performing tasks pertinent to maintaining and constructing trails and facilities; land management and restoration including brush clearing, metal fabrication, tree felling, herbicide application, common farming practices and prescribed burning.

Medical Program
The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

Vacation

Wellness Program
The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward.
