rnrnCambia Health Solutions is working to create a seamless and
frictionless health care experience for consumers nationwide.* This
presents a unique challenge and opportunity for innovative solutions
that serve patients and providers and influence the healthcare system.
Machine Learning Scientists on the AI team build, prototype, and deploy
data-driven models and algorithms to production systems, advancing the
state-of-the-art in healthcare. Our work helps improve the health
quality of millions and delivers more equitable, effective, and
affordable health care to our members.**rn
rn
The ML team is looking for a new member to help advance our current and
future work applying machine learning, deep learning, and NLP to deliver
better health care. We solve a wide range of challenging problems, for
example:
rn
How to identify those members whose health will benefit most from
outreach and services.
How to lower our plan members' claim costs.
How to better understand and answer our members' and providers'
most pressing questions and concerns.
How to reduce friction and increase operational efficiency for
members and providers.
rn
These technical challenges afford us the unique opportunity to draw from
and develop a wide variety of tools and approaches. We are passionate
about discovering novel data sources, generating datasets and features,
designing experiments to test hypotheses, learning from the work of
others to maximize creative algorithm and model-building, developing
metrics to evaluate performance, and, of course, collaborating with our
business partners to ensure our work is valuable. We are never bored!
rn
The ideal candidate for this role will share a passion for all things
machine learning. They will have a strong foundation in ML, both classic
ML and deep learning, and will be comfortable with ML processes,
development lifecycle, and mathematical underpinnings. An understanding
of and appreciation for both model explainability and the potential
pitfalls of algorithmic bias are essential. We seek someone who is a mix
of independent and collaborative, results-driven and explorative, and
who adheres to best practices while thinking creatively. You should be
comfortable in a python-based development environment in which you will
be responsible for data extraction and manipulation, iterative model
development and evaluation, and documentation and communication of
results. Know that as a team, we are committed to providing the support,
tools, and platforms to help our team members be as productive and
successful as possible.
rn
Cambia's mission is to serve as a catalyst to transform health care,
creating a person-focused and economically sustainable system. Our
vision is to make health care easier and lives better - and, at Cambia,
intelligent use of our data plays a huge part in making that happen.

rnrnQualifications & Requirements:rn
rn
Academic degree (masters or PhD preferred) in a strongly
quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Data Science,
Statistics, or related field.
Strong mathematical foundation and theoretical grasp of the concepts
underlying machine learning, deep learning, and NLP.
Demonstrated understanding of how to structure simple machine
learning pipelines (dataset preparation, training, tested, and
evaluating models).
Strong foundation in exploratory data analysis, including
visualization.
Strong foundation in model evaluation, including metric development
and selection.
Solid grasp of techniques for working with large, noisy,
high-dimensional, sparse, and/or imbalanced data.
Strong pyth n programming skills. Familiarity with standard data
science packages. Familiarity with standard software development
best practices.
Strong SQL or pandas skills for data extraction and manipulation.
Understanding of standard algorithms and data structures (e.g.,
search & sort) and their analysis.
Effective in time and task management.
Able to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and
business partners.
Strong interest in the healthcare industry.
Comfortable working in a small, remote/hybrid team-based
environment.

rnrnResponsibilities:rn
rn
rn
Develops data-driven models and algorithms using machine learning, deep
learning, statistical, and other mathematical modeling techniques.
rn
Trains and tests models, and develops novel algorithms to solve business
problems.
rn
Establishes principled experimental frameworks for model development.
rn
Evaluates model/use case feasibility with quick prototypes.
rn
Measures, analyzes, and visualizes model performance (e.g., feature
importance, interpretability, bias and error analysis) - both during
development and in production.
rn
Uses appropriate metrics and quantified outcomes to drive model and
algorithm improvements.
rn
Helps to analyze, diagnose, and resolve bugs in production ma
