Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Life Science, Natural Science or related field plus six years of relevant experience.
Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Life Science, Natural Science or related field plus four years of relevant experience.
One additional year of experience may substitute for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.

This position provides review of potential impacts to wetland Critical Environmental Features and floodplains for development permits such as site plans, subdivisions and zoning cases. Responsibilities include field work to verify and delineate wetlands and document floodplain health; review of construction plans; the use of
GIS
and other review software for data entry, site evaluation and plan interpretation; and communication with applicants, staff and various boards and commissions.
TRAVEL
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program
, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
Experience interpreting and applying environmental policies, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Experience preparing and presenting scientific or legal information to stakeholders, the public, Boards and Commissions or similar entities.
Experience reading construction plans.
Experience conducting field surveys for the identification and evaluation of environmental features such as rimrocks, caves, bluffs, seeps, springs, karst features, streams, floodplains or wetlands.
Experience advocating for the protection of natural resources.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Perform project planning, prioritization, and tracking of technical resources
Conduct site selection and study design
Operate/calibrate equipment
Perform chemical, biological and physical testing and classification
Interpret water quality, flow and biological data
Conduct training in sampling and analysis
Organize and prepare reports and memos based on data evaluation
Review and interpret policies, codes, regulations and ordinances
Perform environmental assessments on proposed capital projects, systems, programs and development plans
Assist in development of code changes and rules development
