Job Description

Tyson Foods Alternative Protein R&D Team is looking for a recognized leader in CPG Product Development to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be a recognized leader in CPG Product Development with considerable expertise in Prepared Foods Product Development & Commercialization. Any demonstrable knowledge of the dynamic alternative protein product landscape will be highly desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead a team of scientists in planning, developing and executing projects within the Alt Protein BU and collaborate actively with power brand R&D teams across the organization for alternative protein- related launches.

This position will work closely with cross functional partners to identify and prioritize projects that could include new products, quality improvements, cost optimization and capacity utilization.

Leverage technical knowledge of food product development and commercialization with a strong drive for results and flawless execution. Express and facilitate creativity to develop and execute intellectual property initiatives that drive insulated and sustainable technologies.

They will directly interface with cross functional teams including marketing, insights, operations, engineering, FSQA and purchasing in identifying, prioritizing and executing work.

The individual will lead an R&D team and proactively drive the innovation and technology agenda within Alt Protein. They will manage and prioritize workload for their R&D team as well as provide coaching and development for direct reports.

This person will assist in developing and building leadership talent and capabilities by identifying, hiring and coaching to include individual development plans, performance reviews and succession plans.

EDUCATION: BS, MS or PhD in Food Science, Meat Science, Food Engineering or related field.

EXPERIENCE: BS with minimum 11 years, MS with minimum 8 years, PhD with minimum 6 years relevant R&D work experience. 5 years leadership management experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Requires excellent computer skills with ability to fully utilize MS Office products and Tyson systems (or like systems).

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Strong presentation skills required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all functional and management levels including senior leadership.

SPECIAL SKILLS (if applicable): Proven, strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and get work done through others; ability to manage team project work along with team management responsibilities; contributor to strategic planning for team; strong aptitude to work cross‐functionally and manage a large number of projects simultaneously in a matrix organization; strong personal drive, proven analytical skills, problem solving, project management, priority setting, and teamwork skills; Broad product knowledge of both internal products as well as competitive set; understands and represents the needs of our consumers and customers both internal and external.

SUPERVISORY: 2 direct reports from Technician to Principal Scientist

TRAVEL: 25% ‐ 12 domestic trips per year. Travel will be required to accomplish our internal and external customer needs. Travel will include customer meetings, plant production facilities for testing and commercialization of new products, process trouble shooting and any other regular business needs.
