Job Summary
CD Diagnostics (a Division of Zimmer Biomet) is a leading developer of diagnostic analytical tools to rapidly detect the causes of joint pain using joint fluid analysis. We are committed to providing orthopedic surgeons the diagnostic confidence needed to enhance patient care and improve treatment outcomes.
This is an entry level laboratory position responsible for performing research and development activities and entails significant bench work. This position will work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment under the supervision of a Senior Scientist in support of specific R&D projects. The job includes executing experiments, recording results in a laboratory notebook, analyzing and summarizing results. He/she exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments, prepares technical protocols and reports, and quantitative analysis using statistical software. Creates and develops new analytical methods and technologies under the guidance or in collaboration with other scientists. Maintains and enhances familiarity with current scientific literature. The job also includes routine laboratory tasks such as aliquoting samples (including human samples), maintaining sample inventories, preparation of buffers, and maintenance and calibration of equipment. Experience with immunoassay including ELISA, multiplexed assays (Luminex), cell culture, and microbiology are pluses. Excellent written and verbal skills are required.


 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Carry out routine scientific research tasks requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.


• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies


• Design and perform experiments and data collection and insure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance


• Safely handle human samples


• Aliquot samples and maintain sample inventories


• Make buffers and carry out dilutions


• Carry out laboratory experiments under the direction of a supervisor or Senior Scientist


• May contribute to experimental design


• Record results in laboratory notebooks


• Analyze experimental data and summarize results; perform statistical analysis of data, and summarize results in graphs, charts, and slides using Graph Prism MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and present work to peers in R&D and cross-functional teams


• Help generate standard operating procedures


• Work as a member of interdepartmental project teams


• Maintain current knowledge with respect to state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems.


• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Expected Areas of Competence
• Individual should have at least some knowledge and experience with many common laboratory tools, instruments and procedures such as pipetting, using a balance, centrifugation, using a pH meter, sterile technique, and safely handling common chemicals and reagents.


• Knowledge of scientific, research principles, practices, and protocols


• Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies


• Must be proficient in making laboratory buffers, calculating concentrations and molarities, and routinely performing dilutions.


• A working knowledge of laboratory procedures and lab safety is required.


• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also required.


• Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Education/Experience Requirements
BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or other Life Science
0-3 years of relevant experience
Candidates with practical experience in laboratory experimentation are preferred
Basic knowledge of immunoassay development, diagnostic assay, and some experience in the field of IVD are preferred
Travel Requirements
up to 5%
