JOB SUMMARY:\u00a0 The Environmental Scientist will utilize their knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing, and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation, in addition to providing field support as needed including field site supervision. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline driven so must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: \u2022\u00a0Conduct and oversee environmental investigations and assessments in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by Project Management staff. \u2022\u00a0Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using RCRA guidelines. \u2022\u00a0Adhere to schedule and financial objectives, controlling time and expenditures to achieve project goals. \u2022\u00a0Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in in support of project objectives. \u2022\u00a0Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation. \u2022\u00a0Review and document the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental restoration project objectives. \u2022\u00a0Review and provide documentation of technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements. \u2022\u00a0Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data. \u2022\u00a0Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations. \u2022\u00a0Conduct site visits, audits, or inspection to ensure operations are compliant. \u2022\u00a0Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. \u2022\u00a0Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: \u2022\u00a0Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs. \u2022\u00a0Knowledge of the practical application of science and technology. \u2022\u00a0Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. \u2022\u00a0Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems and logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. \u2022\u00a0Ability to work in a team environment. \u2022\u00a0Ability to take personal initiative, and to perform duties with minimal guidance and supervision. \u2022\u00a0Ability to think critically. \u2022\u00a0Ability to read and interpret scientific and technical documents.\u00a0 \u2022\u00a0Ability to write technical reports and correspondence.\u00a0 \u2022\u00a0Ability to provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment. \u2022\u00a0Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. \u2022\u00a0Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS \u2022\u00a0Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental Science or other related discipline required. \u2022\u00a0Master\u2019s Degree in Environmental Science preferred. \u2022\u00a0Minimum of 5 years\u2019 experience working on environmental projects with the demonstrated ability to prepare work plans, conduct work while managing and directing projects and subcontractors, and author reports. \u2022\u00a0Must meet ADEC\u2019s definition of a Qualified Professional. \u2022\u00a0Current HAZWOPER certificate required. \u2022\u00a0Working knowledge of 18 AAC 75 (ADEC Oil and Hazardous Substances and Pollution Control Regulations), 18 AAC 78 (ADEC UST Regulations) and the ADEC Draft Field Sampling Guidance Manual preferred. \u2022\u00a0OSHA 30-Hour certificate preferred. \u2022\u00a0Experience in federal government projects highly desired. \u2022\u00a0Current state driver\u2019s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Environmental\u2019s Driving Policy. \u2022\u00a0Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screening. WORKING CONDITIONS: \u2022\u00a0Blend of field assignments outdoors, which may require several days to weeks in generally remote locations, and office setting. \u2022\u00a0The majority of the field assignment work will occur during the summer\/fall. \u2022\u00a0Outdoor conditions may be subject to changes in weather conditions and noise levels. \u2022\u00a0May require travel in helicopter aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs and\/or watercraft for periods of days to weeks, generally in remote locations. \u2022\u00a0Must be willing and able to travel and work long hours to support rigorous timelines PHYSICAL\/VISUAL\/MENTAL\/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
