The position provides an excellent opportunity to pursue innovative, cutting edge research in antigen design and recombinant vaccine development. The work primarily involves discovery and expression of protective antigens as well as design and development of recombinant vaccine candidates against a wide range of animal pathogens. It also involved providing support to proof-of-concept animal studies and other areas of vector vaccine design and development projects in the Vector Vaccine Research Group (UGA-embedded lab).

Duties & Responsibilities:
Generate and characterize recombinant vaccine candidates to meet various species R&D needs and implementation of strategies for selection of lead vaccine candidates (50%)
Optimization of antigen expression from recombinant systems to enhance efficacy of vector platform and evaluate transgene expression and genetic stability of recombinant vaccines to ensure vaccine efficacy (40%)
Interface with R&D Scientists and Project Teams to bring innovative solutions to recombinant vaccine development projects (10%)
MS or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Virology, Bacteriology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry or relevant discipline
At least two (2) years (PhD) or three to five (3-5) years (MS) of hands-on demonstrable experience in virology, immunology and molecular biology.
Strong background in antigen design, identification of protective antigens using immunological tools and generation of recombinant vaccine candidates.Experience in Vectored Vaccine
development, particularly Herpes virus and Pox virus based vector platforms is highly preferred.
Extensive experience in theory and operation of DNA and RNA amplification techniques, cloning and expression techniques, protein biochemistry methods and cultivation of viruses.
Experiences in using sequence analysis computer programs, including Vector NTI.
The role requires highly motivated, dependable and well-organized individual who is also a good team player.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
Must be 18 years of age or older
