The ability not only to forecast in a difficult weather market, but also the ability to communicate that forecast in a way the viewers will understand, is a must. The Meteorologist must be proficient in social media and digital communication to be successful in today’s environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Follow the KIRO weather format and action plans as developed by the News Director, Executive Producers and Chief Meteorologist
Forecast in a difficult weather market in a way the viewers will understand
Create graphics for TV and Digital
Use social media and digital to reach viewers','','','!*!QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong computer skills required
Must be proficient at updating the web with blogs, graphics and videos as well as using social media
This person will have a proven track record developing a working rapport with a diverse group of company leadership.
Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
B.A Degree in Journalism, Communications, Science preferred
Minimum of three years television weathercaster experience required, preferably in at least a medium market
AMS Seal and/or CBM preferred
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle multiple projects at once and effective communication skills are essential
Attention to detail and strong organization skills to prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to work with a diverse group of people in a fast paced environment with frequent deadlines
