Job

Description:

As

a key scientific staff member of the newly created Cancer Immunology and Immune

Modulation (CI&IM) research group at Boehringer-Ingelheim’s US research

facility in Ridgefield, CT, the successful candidate will work closely with

both discovery/pathology scientists and computational biologists to integrate

and analyze image based and molecular pathology data generated in and relevant

for cancer immunology research, and be responsible for 1) driving automated

digital analysis of human tumor microenvironment 2) supporting analysis and

interrogation of single/ signature based gene expression in internal,

collaborative, and public databases.

Responsibilities:

Interrogation

and analysis of cancer immunology research data, including integration of

genomic/transcriptomic data with image analysis of tumor microenvironment

Partner

closely with Computational Biology colleagues in the development of data

acquisition and analysis pipelines for optimal biological interpretation

by research scientists

Contribute

to the development of new hypotheses and new therapeutic concepts in

cancer immunology based on in silico analysis of human data

Develop

junior level research scientists in line with project and departmental

objectives

Prepare

and review clear and accurate technical and research reports for internal

and external use; prepare and deliver scientific presentations for

internal/external use

Collaboration,

extensive scientific exchange, and contribution to a stimulating

scientific culture along with other members of the Cancer Immunology and

Immune Modulation and Computational Biology groups in Ridgefield and

globally is expected

Continuously

develop scientific and drug development expertise by keeping abreast of

relevant literature, expanding scientific/technical knowledge and skill

sets, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals and speaking at

internationally-recognized scientific conferences

Senior Scientist Requirements:

Ph.D.,

with minimum 2 - 5 years of post-doctoral training experience

Demonstrated

track record of independent research and peer-reviewed publications in

scientific areas related to analysis of large biological data sets

relevant to immunology and/or cancer

Experience

with relevant programming languages, statistical software and

visualization tools (e.g. UNIX/LINUX, R, Python, Perl, MATLAB, SAS or

others)

Familiarity

with convolutional neural networks

Ability

and enthusiasm to create fit-for-purpose analysis, interrogation, and

visualization solutions for atypical datasets

Experience with data extraction and high

content analysis from relevant imaging technologies (Ventana, Definiens,

Aperio), digital slide solutions, and formats (e.g. DICOM) is a plus

Wet

lab experience in immunology and/or tumor microenvironment biology is a

plus

Excellent

oral and written communication skills, with the ability to propose,

articulate, evaluate, and defend scientific ideas and data

Prioritize

and focus on the group’s key objectives and goals, and change priorities

if need be and depending on results

The

ability to supervise, mentor, and develop scientific staff

Work

effectively and agilely in a highly collaborative research environment

The

ability to both conduct independent research and be a team player

Willingness

to interact globally with colleagues in Germany, Austria and the USA

including occasional travel to global research sites

Compliant

with all applicable regulations; ensure that work performed in area

of  responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner

Maintain

proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

Principal Scientist Requirements:

Ph.D.

from an accredited institution, or equivalent, with five-plus (5 ) years

of experience in a related field or equivalent

Demonstrated

track record of independent research and peer-reviewed publications in

scientific areas related to analysis of large biological data sets

relevant to immunology and/or cancer

Experience

with relevant programming languages, statistical software and
