We attract top minds, and we nurture and build top talent.Position Summary:Key Responsibilities:1. Perform cell culture, maintain cell lines and perform routine lab equipment maintenance.2. Carry out bioanalytical cell-based assay testing of recombinant protein therapeutics under cGMP. Make detailed observations, analyze data, interpret results, and exercise appropriate technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments in an independent manner. 3. Qualification, transfer and validation of cell-based bioassays for biological characterization and testing of biopharmaceutical products4. Assay investigations and troubleshooting5. Prepare/review technical reports, SOPs and technical summaries; present at internal/external meetings6. Lead investigation for non-conformances and coordinate equipment validationRequirements/Qualifications:Education:   For Associate Scientist I: B.S. degree with 5+ years of experience or M.S. degree with 2+ years of relevant experience. For Associate Scientist II: B.S. degree with 8+ years of experience or M.S. degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.Experience:  Experience with cell-based assay in a GLP/GMP industry environment is required; work experience with virus is a plus.Special Skills/Abilities:  Experience with cell-based assays and their application in biological characterization for biologics are required; experience with Vi-Cell and EnVision multi-label plate readers is a plus; good documentation, writing and communication skills; good time management and outstanding multi-tasking abilities; ability to work in a cGMP environment and a fast-paced team-centered setting.Job Complexity:  Job complexity is medium to high.  The candidate is expected to test routine samples with cell-based assays, use scientific principles and technical skills to perform assay trouble shooting and lead investigations with minimal supervision.Supervision: supervise junior staff when needed; level of independence is medium to high,employmentType:Full_time,identifier:R-063586,title:Associate Scientist I/II,url:,hiringOrganization:{@type:Organization,name:AstraZeneca},jobLocation:{@type:Place,address:{@type:PostalAddress,addressLocality:Gaithersburg,addressRegion:Maryland,addressCountry:US,streetAddress:One MedImmune Way;;Gaithersburg, MD 20878;Gaithersburg;Maryland;United States of America,postalCode:}}}
