The Freshening & Oral Care Gum Product Development Senior Scientist is an important role within the Gum/Mint CBU. It is responsible for insight development, design, development and translation of product innovations for the Expand core, Adjacency and Disrupt areas of growth. This role will be lead contributor within a team that will provide deep technical product and process understanding and will work with lead markets to develop insights to drive innovation. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and leading product development activities and is accountable for the execution of the allocated programs and work streams developed by the global CBU.
This position requires deep technical knowhow and tactical execution to define and execute a portfolio of complex projects, looking at new perspectives to solve existing and new brand solutions within a specified area of Gum Freshening & Oral Care. As a global Product Development Senior Scientist, this role may work on all gum brands, based on the needs of the business.
The Senior Product development Scientist possess a high drive for results, excellent project management skills, a creative and entrepreneurial growth mindset & experiences, and an ability to create strong networks and relationships to drive the innovation agenda. They work independently with minimal guidance and will build effective cross functional working teams to drive projects to execution.
Responsible for designing and leading product development activities and is accountable for the execution of the allocated programs and work streams to bring project through to commercialization
Ensures that the product development for extending core, and breakthrough product designs are delivered for the brands and that they are designed to meet the brand KQA’s.
Ensures that the product development process is carried out such that timelines are met to market products.
Ensures that the product specifications are as accurate as possible to ensure correct costing.
Ensures that Product quality and Manufacturing quality performance measures standards and corrective actions are specified for each new and current product to ensure performance at the required level for all manufactured products
Works with cross-functional teams in a design thinking way of working to design and deliver new and novel innovation for the brand
Works with the Science and Technology teams to help to develop technology and research strategies required by the brand
Remains abreast of new developments in food technologies, packaging, design, category trends and related fields
Continually works with key team members in the GBD and Regions on new extend core and Pioneer Adjacency innovation programs and ensures the technical feasibility of the projects.
Continually works with Regions to scope for new Scale innovation and ensures the technical feasibility of the projects.
A Key Technical expert contact for gum product & technology development globally
Connects with peers in other regions, other R&D functions and CBU’s to share best practices, and accelerate the global deployment of new innovations
Context and Scope
They will be responsible for developing and working on specific projects with lead markets to deliver extend core and Pioneer Adjacency innovation, as well as for identifying and pushing innovation opportunities that are currently in the market which can be scaled globally.
They be a key technical expert and contact globally for the gum Freshening & Oral Care brands and will facilitate key product and pack learnings opportunities across brands and across markets.
Will provide major input to the recommendations to the GBD and Science and Technology teams regarding strategy development and seek approval for progression of projects through stage gates and ultimately launch.
Will apply scientific and innovative methodology across the whole program of work, incorporating the best internal and external tools and methodologies.
Global travel will be required to factories as well as key markets.
Minimum: Bachelor of Science in a technical area including engineering, chemistry, food science is required.
Preferred: In addition to the minimum requirements, a master's degree in Product Development or Project management would be preferred.
Proven Project management skills typically acquired through 8 years of professional experience in leading NPD projects as the key technical member on a cross-functional team. Hands on experience in the development and successful launch of new products, packages and processes.
Proven track record of management of complex projects through execution, preferably with cross functional teams
Excellent oral and written communication skills, people development skills and learning agility.
Preferred: Experience in working with multiple regions/markets and outside venders to deliver project requirements
