An opportunity for a Lead
to support of a “green” process development effort. This is a critically important position
since ‘ reliable data’ is a key to success
as they work to develop a novel process for the manufacture of plastics. The position will include a significant amount of self-directed work and mentoring of junior employees. I’ve been placing talent with this client since 2012 and have noticed very quick progress through various process development steps and yet, you’ll still be getting in near the ground floor in this well-funded startup company.
The Senior Analytical Chemist
will lead analytical testing in support of process development. You’ll be the go-to ‘analytical instrumentation and methods expert’ in a highly collaborative company.
Our client is developing a novel “green” process (biomass-to-chemical) including steps from pre-treatment of the biomass feed-stock (for contaminant reduction) to downstream petrochemical processing. Your work will involve all-things-analytical: method development, data logging, analysis and quality control, statistical process methods, procedure writing, selected ASTM and EPA testing, and mentoring/ teaching junior scientists, engineers, and technicians. You’ll also take responsibility for on-line process sampling systems for efficient pilot plant data recording and processing. Instruments include: GC, GC-MS, IC (ion-exchange chromatography), and ICP- Atomic Emissions Spectroscopy.
As time permits, you will also lead hydrocarbon product development studies. This requires an ability to plan and manage test programs involving company resources, 3
-party laboratory, and external certification bodies such as ASTM and other industry consortium groups.
Working to develop a novel process that converts sustainable biomass materials into renewable chemicals, they have brought in a very well-respected and technically accomplished team.
They are a professionally run organization with well-planned goals and objectives, stated company values like “honesty and integrity”, and have world renowned business partners
who provide the catalyst, additional R&D support, and process design assistance for commercial plant construction.
They are funded in part by large well-known companies who are interested in the final product.
For example, an investor might be interested in a “green” source of plastic for making beverage bottles or car parts. Renewed funding is attainable via a ‘stage-gate like’ progress analysis and they have recently completed critical process scale-up milestones and been granted more funding!
