Healthcare and Life Sciences represent key areas for the application of the cognitive computing capabilities of IBM Watson. The Life Scientist will work with Data Scientists and other disciplines in the creation, design, and implementation of Watson Health offerings and solutions. The Life Scientist will leverage their expertise in many fields including chemistry (organic chemistry, biochemistry, etc.), biology (cell biology, virology, bacteriology, etc.), medicine, genomics, proteomics, disease pathology, and therapeutic areas including small molecule and biologics. In collaboration with Data Scientists, the Life Scientist will apply their expertise to complex problems including the investigation into and the prediction of disease target identification, drug discovery, disease pathways, drug repurposing, adverse event detection, and other disciplines in the healthcare field. The candidate must be able to integrate data from many sources and create the associated metadata derived from text analytics technology with chemical and biological annotations for revolutionary drug research and development. You will use your ability to find and interpret rich data sources, manage large amounts of data, and create visualizations to aid in understanding data. You will present and communicate the data insights/findings to customers.
Work with clients to set goals, objectives and key milestones for solution development & delivery consistent with the IBM strategy for Watson.
Provide subject matter expertise in chemistry, biology, and medicine in complex projects involving data analysis and implementations for clients in the healthcare and life science domains.
Collaborate with and leverage internal and external teams to achieve goals.
Ability to work across groups to identify and resolve issues and problems that need immediate focus and resolution.
Experience in assessing Assess the current and ongoing readiness to achieve solution objectives utilizing project plans.
Prepare and present technical and business results and recommendations to all levels, including researchers, program managers, stakeholders, and executives.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Deep Understanding of Medicine, Chemistry, and Biology
5 years of experience in the life science industry
Excellent foundation in core CS competencies such as data structures, algorithms and software architecture.
Background in mathematics, statistics, data mining, and predictive methodologies, especially in relation to biological and chemical processes.
Experience in data visualization techniques for drug discovery
Experience in interpreting rich and large volume of data
Experience in summarizing data findings and communicating the data insights
Experience working with clients in collaboration with the services solution team to capture the business processes & use cases associated with the customer needs for Watson solutions in appropriate tools.
English: Fluent
