We are an innovative research group within Comcast's Technology & Product organization with offices in Washington, DC, Silicon Valley, Philadelphia, Denver and Chicago that does groundbreaking research to support the development of novel Deep Learning, Speech and Natural Language Processing based products for Comcast's 22 Million consumers. As a machine learning (ML) scientist in the Accelerate Innovation in Language Technologies (AILT) team -- focusing on Speech and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies -- you will join a small team of applied researchers. You will use advanced ML to solve problems across high-impact, customer-facing products and/or applications, such as the Xfinity Voice Remote and Xfinity Assistant. Your focus will be on leading the initial design and development of new ML models, data pipelines and evaluation systems that help us deliver improved end-to-end solutions.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

Follows the latest trends in academia and the technology industry and continuously seek ways to improve internal NLP platforms.

Implements, refines and validates machine learning algorithms for products and applications.

Takes action on existing specifications of designs and develops data pipelines consisting of data ingest, data validation, data cleaning and data monitoring.

Trains machine learning models, validates the accuracy of the machine learning models once trained and deploys validated machine learning models into production.

Collaborates with teams outside of immediate work group. Represents the work team in providing solutions to technical issues associated with assigned projects.

Designs and implements data selection and annotation pipelines and methods like active learning to maximize improvement of ML model accuracy as well as minimize machine bias.

Provides guidance and leadership to more junior engineers.

Guides the successful completion of programs that identify patterns and make decisions with minimal human intervention. Determines the technical objectives of an assignment. Leads the design of prototypes, partnering with the product team and other stakeholders through development. Conducts studies to support product or application development.

Designs and implements end-to-end solutions using optimization and other advanced computer science technologies and owns live deployments. Aggregates huge amounts of data and information from large numbers of sources to discover patterns and features necessary to automate analytical models.

Researches, writes and edits documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, confluence pages, white papers, presentations, test results, technical manuals, formal recommendations and reports. Contributes to the company by creating patents, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and other intellectual property.

Presents papers and/or attends conferences, as well as displaying leadership in these areas.

Tests and evaluates solutions presented to the Company by various internal and external partners and vendors. Completes case studies, testing and reporting.

Collaborates with teams outside of immediate work group. Represents the work team in providing solutions to technical issues associated with assigned projects.

Mentor a diverse team of junior engineers in machine learning techniques, tools and concepts. Provides guidance and leadership to more junior engineers.

Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Familiar with production NLP software systems that leverage common ML libraries such as NLTK, pandas, pytorch, tensorflow, etc.

Hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines, either in an offline/batch nature or an online/streaming nature, using technologies such as PySpark, Databricks, Amazon EMR, SQS, etc.

Cares about high-quality software, agile development practices and robust platforms.

Has the skills to develop automation into training and evaluation pipelines for continuous delivery and integration (CI/CD).

Open to learning new skills and are flexible about filling different roles to support high-priority initiatives.

Education

Bachelor's Degree
