The Innovative Collaborations (IC) Senior Medical Scientist within Worldwide Strategic Collaborations will provide leadership and direction to develop key external partnerships with institutes and thought leaders focused on Oncology, Immunology and Cardiovascular research. The IC Senior Medical Scientist will be responsible for aligning with an internal, cross-functional team to ensure seamless execution and review of potential collaboration partners, contracts, projects, analysis plans and data from clinical and translational studies. The Senior Medical Scientist will work closely with BMS Development Teams to ensure that collaboration studies and analyses are aligned to strategy and support the development of breakthrough research and therapies in oncology, immunology fibrosis, and cardiovascular therapeutic areas. The IC Senior Medical Scientist will report to the Director of Innovative Collaborations within the US Strategic Collaborations and Global Health Equity Organization in Worldwide Strategic Collaborations.

Roles and Responsibilities

Developing a project plan for the Collaboration that is consistent with BMS' strategic imperatives and Development Teams' objectives

Leadership of cross-functional team that includes representatives from legal, contracting, grants, finance, and operations to ensure seamless execution of Collaboration contracts and studies approved under the Collaboration

Transparent communication and close collaboration with multiple functional teams within Research & Development to ensure appropriate alignment

Fostering external relationships with Collaboration partners and their respective networks of academic sites for timely identification of opportunities to accelerate conduct and design of Collaboration studies

Developing and streamlining internal processes for the review of Collaboration study concepts, protocols, analysis plans, data, and publications

Coordinating the design and operational execution of Collaboration projects aimed at informing future Collaboration studies


Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD or PharmD) with experience in Oncology, Hematology, or Immunology-related fields preferred; other advanced scientific degree with extensive, relevant clinical experience considered

At least 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical development, Medical Affairs or relevant experience; previous customer-facing role experience highly desirable

Familiar all phases of drug development, including clinical development, regulatory and life cycle management

In depth knowledge of overall project planning, clinical trial design and project management of clinical trials

Understanding of the US healthcare system and academic institutional settings with demonstrated ability to navigate and lead through an ambiguous and changing healthcare and business environments

Adept at building credibility with external investigators & collaborative partners, competently balances business and scientific acumen during engagements anchored by strong leadership behaviors

Strong, proven stakeholder and relationship management skills with senior leaders

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analyze issues and opportunities at the collaborator interface and understand the impact to BMS, with minimal supervision

Proven ability to partner effectively across multiple functions and at all levels of the enterprise with exceptional matrix leadership skills.

Ability to lead and manage a complex (e.g., cross-functional, matrix designed) project team

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills appropriately flexing based on audience; expertly leverages effective communication and negotiation skills to influence decisions

Expected travel 25% of time within the continental US
