Nature’s Sunshine Products seeks a Senior Scientist-Chemistry to work in Lehi, Utah as a bench research scientist and principal investigator who leads one or more research programs that provide technical and scientific support for registering health foods in China. Duties: (1) Responsible for maintaining safety within the laboratory, including equipment and personnel operations; (2) advise the Chief Scientific Officer on scientific matters in his or her field of expertise; (3) develop detailed research plan(s) with deliverables and timelines for research program(s) assigned by the Chief Scientific Officer; (4) continually improve the project management effectiveness within NSP, looking for opportunities to streamline the processes, measure progress with KPIs; (5) identify, develop, and/or define laboratory research methodologies required to complete assigned research program; (6) conduct bench-level experimentation requiring state of the art chemistry and biology techniques such as CCC, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR; (7) proactively seek out new technologies to be developed into proprietary opportunities; (8) prepare detailed timely reports regarding research findings and presents findings within the company; (9) prepare manuscripts describing research findings in a suitable format for publication in peer reviewed journals; (10) prepare reports describing research findings in suitable format for patent applications; (11) present approved research at scientific meetings; (12) develop external relationships with leaders in area of expertise; (13) stay abreast of the scientific literature as it relates to company objectives; (14) provide technical and scientific support to assist in registering health food in China; and (15) perform such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements: (1) Doctorate degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, or a related field; (2) 24 months of experience working as a Senior Scientist- Chemistry, Senior Research Scientist, Researcher, Postdoctoral Researcher, or Graduate Researcher; (3) Demonstrable in-depth working knowledge of: (a) phytochemistry, biochemistry and medicinal chemistry; (b) chromatography and spectrometry; (c) separation techniques for isolating natural products; (d) spectroscopic techniques for structure identification of natural products; (e) various HPLC, LCMS, and GCMS software (Waters, Agilent, etc); (f) the PERCH software tool for NMR full spin analysis; (g) quantitative NMR analysis; (i) microbiology assay and cell culture assay; and (j) laboratory safety; (4) demonstrated proficiency in and ability to: (a) use chemistry laboratory equipment, including CCC (operating and troubleshooting), analytical and preparative HPLC, LCMS, LCMS2, NMR, and GCMS; (b) design and apply various techniques (reverse phase, normal phase, CCC) to the isolation of natural products; (c) design experiment and elucidate structure of natural products using spectroscopic techniques (e.g. MS, NMR, infrared red, circular dichroism); (d) perform NMR full spin analysis with PERCH software tool; (e) use microbiology assay and mammalian cell culture assay; (f) design and perform PK experiment;(g) communicate effectively orally and in writing; (h) use microbiology assay and cell culture assay; (i) teach laboratory safety to others; (j) design, conduct at bench level experiments, and interpret experimental data independently; (k) prepare scientific writings and edit proficiently with history of publication as first author in peer reviewed journal(s); and (l) search and find techniques in the literature, implement them in the lab, and critically evaluate results.
