Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59 Allina Health clinics, 40 hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

Greets patients, performs check-in process, and is responsive to patients’ questions and needs.
Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.
Effectively and accurately manages patient orders to ensure adherence to regulatory and billing requirements.
Performs scheduling, ordering and releasing as appropriate in Electronic Medical Record, following policies and procedures.
Reviews orders and verifies patient identification.
Demonstrates the ability to assess and react effectively to unique patient needs.
Instructs patients accurately on procedures and protocols.
Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
Collects samples and labels specimens correctly, in accordance with appropriate procedures and protocols.
Evaluates acceptability of specimens
Performs processing of specimens with strict adherence to the quality control and quality assurance policies of AHL.
Effectively prioritizes work assignments/tasks.
Performs analytical tests according to policies, procedures and federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
Evaluates results for accuracy within set guidelines and resolves complex test problems.
Recognizes, communicates, and documents results that require action according to policies and procedures.
Performs and documents routine & advanced instrument maintenance and quality control; takes appropriate remedial action. Ensures appropriate record retention.
Stocks, rotates and requests supplies (as assigned) on a regular basis to ensure proper availability in the work area.
May have oversight as a key operator of a work area.
Phlebotomy, heelstick, capillary and EKG collections
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:
Participates in the development of technical procedures, forms, misc. documents, method validation and implementation of new methodologies.
Participates and assists in the direct observation of staff for the annual competency program.
Trains others in work area(s).
Serves as student preceptor.
Participates in AHL and/or hospital projects and committees.
Performs various clerical duties
Assists with department scheduling
Attends and participates in department and other meetings as assigned.
May function as Charge Tech in absence of Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
4 year degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science completion of clinical internship certification as CLS/MT (certification must be achieved within 6 months of employment if new grad).
OR HEW MT/CLS per CLIA 88
OR 4 year degree in related science certification in a lab specialty area 2 years’ experience in appropriate analytic area
For diplomas earned outside of the United States a record of diploma/transcript
Utilize communication and customer service skills in order to positively impact patient experience.
Read and understand oral and written instructions and follow established written policies and procedures.
Work independently and function effectively in a team setting.
Demonstrate computer skills to navigate within information system.
Prioritize and organize tasks/assignments and multitask as appropriate, with attention to detail.
Combination of evening and night shift, scheduled depending on department need
Every other weekend on evening shift
This position will float between both Mercy Campus and Unity Campus
