Duties & Responsibilities A Virology/Chemical Biology laboratory at Harvard Medical School invites applications for a new Staff Scientist position to join a research team developing tools to study the biophysical properties and functions of membranes in viral replication. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with virologists and biochemists in the laboratory to develop biochemically reconstituted experimental models for interrogating how lipid structure and composition affect membrane-associated viral processes. Individual will play a leading role in the design and execution of research projects related to these scientific goals, the development of new methods, and management of junior members of the research team. This position is an excellent opportunity for experienced post-doctoral fellow interested in staying in academia.

Basic Qualifications PhD in biophysics, chemical engineering, or a related field and a minimum 7 years progressively responsible research experience, including 2 years of experience working with supported lipid bilayers. Demonstrated expertise in use of TIRF microscopes as well as expertise in lipid and protein biochemistry and cell biology and/or virology. Documented publication history required.
Additional Qualifications Willingness to acquire expertise in the other areas required for this research is required. The successful candidate will have strong oral/written communication skills, strong accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to achieve desired goals. Knowledge and skill in applying quantitative methods to biological problems and experiments. Experience managing and mentoring junior scientists in the laboratory. Computer literacy with emphasis on Windows operating systems and software applications; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Metamorph, ImageJ or other imaging software, Filemaker Pro
