Description:
A position is currently available in the Department of Immunology and Respiratory Diseases for a Senior Scientist specializing in in vivo immunology and/or ex vivo disease-relevant biomarker strategy development and implementation. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for performing and managing scientific and technical activities that support the immunology research portfolio, with a focus on establishing relevant pre-clinical biomarkers to help the team gain a greater understanding of the pre-clinical PK/PD/efficacy of novel therapeutics, as well as link them to the immunological disease models to support target validation and advance our small molecule and biotherapeutics-based portfolio for clinical success.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Independently design and perform experiments focuses on in vivo models of immune and inflammatory-driven diseases, with a goal to establish a linkage between disease-relevant tissue biomarkers and immunological disease models to gain a deep mechanistic understanding of disease processes and linkage to human disease.
Develops an understanding of R&D; team goals and works effectively toward achieving them; Either assumes departmental responsibility for projects when necessary OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals
Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and or presentations; Presents responsibly and defends own work at meetings; May deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals
Develops expertise in a specific project-relevant area OR technology; May provide guidance and expertise to advance specific projects OR evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects.
Keeps abreast of relevant literature; Develops visibility outside of functional area.
Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.
Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel.
Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in biological sciences with expertise in one or more of the following areas preferred: Immuno-biology or related field, influence of microbiome in immunology-relevant disease, with 0-3 post-graduate academic (post-doc), or biotechnology/pharmaceutical research experience preferred.
Strong technical knowledge of in vivo models in inflammatory disease areas and/or ex vivo biomarker detection experience is highly desired.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven track record of high research accountability and productivity both independently with minimal supervision and within a team setting is. The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, be motivated to apply his/her skills to meet diverse project needs, and enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic team environment and proven ability to focus on activities that enable decision making.
Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations impacting industry R&D.;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an interdisciplinary environment.
