Job Description
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. of Genomic Medicine, based in Farmington, CT is seeking a senior computational scientist to join our Computational Sciences – Statistics & Analytics (CS-SA) group. This position offers the opportunity to make leading contributions to cutting edge research in disease biology and translational research in collaboration with the faculty and genetic resource scientists and collaborators of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (JAX). Cross campus and industry collaborations are encouraged.
This position reports to the Director of Jackson’s Computational Sciences (CS) and have primary responsibility for providing statistical and analytical bioinformatics expertise and interpretation to the scientific research programs at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT and its collaborative programs. A Senior Computational Scientist is expected to independently establish collaborations within JAX, providing expert reasoning to the projects relevant to the respective disciplines of work and make leading contributions to the grant applications in collaboration with JAX researchers and able to obtain substantial funding through research grants. In addition, Sr Scientist is expected to mentor junior scientists and assist the Director of Computational Sciences in shaping the policies and procedures of the group.
The ideal candidate will:
Possess a Ph.D. in biostatistics, computer science, or bioinformatics or a relevant field of study and more than 5years of post-doctoral experience in bioinformatics and computational biology
Has a proven track record and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic high performance collaborative research team environment;
Demonstrate the aptitude and capacity for developing bioinformatics expertise in the areas of genomics, cancer biology or immunology and relevant translational research
Be a creative contributor eager to learn new technologies and science
Develop a collaborative funded research program
Mentor scientists in the respective domain
Required Skills
Incumbents are required to live and work in Connecticut with periodic multi-day work visits to the Bar Harbor, Maine campus.
Desired Skills
Experience in High Throughput Sequence (HTS) data analysis, microarray data analysis, experimental design, data integration, algorithm development, development of sequence analysis tools (bioinformatics programming), evaluation of analytical tools and technology, and delivering training to the research community.
Experience in statistical packages (e.g. R/SAS) and other commonly used software packages such as DAVID and IPA.
Experience in developing computational algorithms and systems to support genetics and genomics research.
Excellent communication skills including skills necessary to present at the conferences and workshops, write study designs and analytical methods.
Conceptualize and drive research projects and grant applications independently as well as collaboratively with the researchers at The JAX.
Desired Experience
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics expertise in niche areas of biomedical research such as cancer biology, stem cell biology and immunology would be a plus. Candidates with a proven track record of “omics” data analysis, independent collaborative work and leading contributions to a biological discipline are preferred.
