We are seeking a person with diverse experience to support a wide range of activities throughout the United States. Our work focuses primarily on the energy and utilities industries, particularly renewable energy projects (wind and solar), large multi-state transmission lines, pipelines, and energy development. Primary duties for renewable energy projects will include due diligence reviews, preconstruction field surveys, construction compliance oversight, post-construction monitoring programs, preparation and oversight of NEPA documents (Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments) and Biological Assessments, feasibility studies, and habitat assessments. The position will also require strategic planning and coordination with state and federal agencies, mentoring junior staff, and leading field crews.
The ideal candidates will possess a BS or MS degree in botany, wildlife biology, zoology, ecology, or range science; and substantial experience with NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, including preparation of Biological Assessments and Section 7 consultation support. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
* Prepare and review stand-alone biological resources reports, biological assessments, and biological portions of NEPA documents
* Collaborate with clients, **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. staff, and resource and regulatory agency staffs to obtain permits and entitlements
* Work closely, as a member of a team, with resource and regulatory agency staffs throughout planning and execution of natural resources studies
* Develop business and lead major proposal efforts
* Prepare and manage project budgets and scopes of work
* Peer review biological reports from other consultants
* Attend and/or present at local, regional and national conferences and forums
* Prepare protocols and supervise surveys for sensitive habitats and species, including general surveys for report writing, focused or protocol-level surveys, and pre-construction surveys
* Mentor and train staff
* Obtain and review existing reports and other documents for materials to be included in documents.
* Primary responsibility for QA/QC oversight of field data to support report-writing, land use planning, NEPA documentation, and permitting
* Provide recommendations for mitigation measures, monitoring, and permitting specific to biological resources
* Provide support for obtaining biological permits
* Implement strategies for utility project compliance with wind energy guidelines
What you will accomplish:
Oversee biological natural resource field surveys collecting observational and spatial data concerning a variety of vegetation, terrestrial and/or avian species. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms. Complete biological survey reports, data entry, impact assessment, and assist in Endangered Species Act, wetland delineations and/or Clean Water Act permitting. Conduct research as appropriate and assist with proposal development.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field required
* 15 years of experience developing and reviewing biological surveys, fieldwork, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and/or construction monitoring
* Knowledge of the threatened or endangered species highly
* Knowledge of wind energy guidelines and avian and bat issues related to wind
* Demonstrated experience in preparing technical documents
