The Bioprocess Technology Development team is currently seeking a highly
motivated and energetic subject matter expert as a Scienist IV / Senior
Scientist, Bioprocess Engineer to drive innovation within the
BioProcess Science (BPS) department of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica
(BIVI). The main responsibilities are to develop creative
methods, deliver new technologies and integrate cost-effective solutions to
support process development teams (PD), as well as Production. The senior
scientist will work with a team of scientists responsible for driving
innovation in Biological Vaccine Process Development, specifically Downstream Formulation and Lyophilization. As an employee of Boehringer

Bachelors' degree in a relevant scientific discipline
required plus fourteen (14) years relevant experience or, Masters’ degree
in a relevant scientific discipline required plus ten (10) years relevant
experience. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline required plus
eight (8) years relevant experience preferred.
At least five (5) years of Managerial with leadership
skills is preferred.
Must have the ability to operate and train team members
on current instrumentation/equipment and learn then train new technology
and concepts.
Microbial or/and mammalian cell culture-viral
expertise.
A thorough understanding of protein chemistry, viral and bacterial
stability.
In depth knowledge and high-level expertise
in:
High-level expertise in Lyophilization cycle
development, optimization, and scale up
Thermoanalyses such as but not limited to DSC, DVS,
circodicroism, dynamic light scattering (DLS), identification of
degradation mechanisms,
Biological vaccine formulation expertise, excipient
screening as pertains to live viral and bacterial agents (and preferred
low purity vaccines)
Preferred industrial experience with novel approaches
to antigen formulation and drying
Ability to work independently on projects with
long-term goals.
Capable of leading team meetings, lead projects team
meetings, lead on-job trainings, assist in career development seminars and
other assignments as determined by supervisor.
Proposes, gains support with Core Team and/or sub Team,
and implements the Design, Schedule, Execution and authoring protocols,
conduct experiments and generation of reports and treats all data with a
high level of integrity and ethics. Utilization of Statistical software is
required.
Excellent organizational, oral and written
communication skills, including a customer-focused attitude
Able to manage multiple projects in parallel, including
key participation on multi-disciplinary project teams.
Proven data presentation, troubleshooting and problem
solving skills.
An understanding of basic experimental objectives and
experimental design, including a successful track record of independently
performing experiments and consistently preparing accurate and complete
experimental records.
The ability and desire to work comfortably in a fast
paced team setting, collaborate with other groups and deliver results in
line with project and team objectives
Scientist IV Requirements:

perfusion fed-batch) as well as downstream processes (TF/ATF filtration,
ultra/Micro filtration, live cell/virus inactivation).
Ability to work independently on projects with
long-term goals.
In depth knowledge and high-level expertise in one of
more of the following areas will be required:

An in depth
understanding of the metabolic activities of the cell culture and implementing
the right analytics would be particularly desirable ·
Expert knowledge and
experience in using systems biology approach to gain deep biological
understanding.·
Scale-up/ Scale-down of
bioreactor processes is highly desirable.·
Base- and Feed-media
optimization to improve product quality and increase titers.·
High-level expertise in
Lyophilization cycle development, analytics, optimization, and scale up.·
Biological vaccine
formulation expertise would be particularly desirable.·
Able to manage multiple
projects in parallel, including key participation on multi-disciplinary project
