Principal Scientist - On-market Technical Product Support

Profile

Abbott Molecular has an immediate opening for Principal Scientist On-market Technical Product Support. This Scientist will be involved in CAPA investigations by leading/designing verification studies to determine root causes relating to failures. This individual will guide/mentor junior team members in these processes. Additionally, the Principal Scientist will lead cost reduction projects researching efficiencies.
Major responsibilities include:
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
- Understands and consistently follows documented procedures.
- Identifies/communicates to other areas in the division implications of relevant scientific observations.
- Conceives, plans, and executes projects related to the strategic needs of the division.
- Independently designs and executes a series of experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes.
- Applies advance scientific knowledge to projects.
- Utilizes DOE where appropriate.
- Ensures quality through sound experimental design, execution and evaluation.
- Assists in the design of experiments for others.
- Identifies new directions for research from literature review.
- Applies basic computer skills (includes word processing, spreadsheets, instrumentation-related and Abbott network systems).
- Produces reports and documents utilizing advanced writing skills.
- Utilizes multiple analytical instruments; trains others in their operation.
- Anticipates, recognizes, and resolves technical problems..
Education:
Ph.D. in a life or physical science with typically 6 years advanced research or industrial experience. Molecular biology degree/background is highly preferred. FISH technology experience is a plus. Industry experience is strongly preferred.

- Establishes the project approach. Leads project planning, updates, and process improvements.
- Generates new product ideas consistent with division strategy.

- Applies advanced multi-disciplinary or highly specialized analytical techniques.
- Implements one or more large scale, strategic projects. Reduce cycle times and direct process improvements.
- Works on improvement and development of new planning processes.
- Maintains appropriate documentation so that information and materials are traceable and processes are transferable.
- Establishes and uses appropriate metrics to measure progress toward meeting quality standards and to enable early identification and correction of gaps.
- Takes action that goes beyond job requirements in order to achieve objectives.
- Looks for ways to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.
