Monsanto is seeking an energetic, talented scientist to join the Plant Health team in an exciting role supporting Plant Breeding and other R&D; organizations in Monsanto. The scientist selected for this position will be based at the Chesterfield, MO site with responsibility to support plant disease epidemiology efforts in our organization. In this role, the successful candidate will also be involved in various aspects of Monsanto’s global Plant Health effort. Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include:
Consolidating domain knowledge on diseases affecting row crops.
Designing and managing field trials focused on expanding domain knowledge for key diseases affecting row crops globally.
Interacting across various organizations within Monsanto to coordinate disease epidemiology and integrated disease control trials and to communicate results in a timely manner.','!*!Requirements:
PhD degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Agronomy or related field with at least 3 years experience designing and conducting field-oriented pathology experiments.
Excellent knowledge of general plant pathology/epidemiology with preference towards pathogens of row crops; excellent comprehension of experimental design, statistical analyses, and implementation of field and controlled environment trials; ability to effectively manipulate, summarize and interpret large data sets.
Working understanding of population biology, population genetics, quantitative genetics, plant breeding, molecular biology, agronomic production practices, meteorology and other areas that impact the practical application of plant disease epidemiology to control diseases of row crops with an emphasis on host resistance.
Familiarity with application, use and opportunities for employing newest IT tools to epidemiological problems
Clear ability, motivation, and enthusiasm with regard to the need for long work hours and travel to deliver results from field trials.
Experience and skills with project management.
Results-oriented personality and motivation to manage multiple simultaneous projects while delivering high quality data under strict deadlines.
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and experience working with external teams in collaborative projects.
Excellent English communication skills. Other language skills are desirable.Flexibility for frequent travel, including internationally.
