FOOD SCIENTIST Summary: Develop new products in lunchmeats, sausage and meat snacks. This is a hands-on position and requires an understanding of meat raw materials, processing techniques, packaging, and how they merge to deliver desired finished products. A physical presence in establishing optimal process at the pilot plant level and on through commercialization on the shop floor is essential. The position will occasionally participate in product improvement projects and may be called upon to provide technical guidance to the plants.
Requirements: B.S. in Meat Science or Food Science. M.S. is preferred and Culinary experience is a plus. Project management experience all the way through to a successful launch. A foundational understanding of post rigor meat chemistry, meat microbiology and packaging science particularly pertaining to refrigerated, CPG, ready to eat processed meat (lunchmeat, sausage, and franks). A familiarity with USDA requirements/regulations involving meat product labeling. 3+ years’ experience in the meat science field. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong team player as a member of cross-functional teams that drive new product creation, development, commercialization and improvement is required. A demonstrated aptitude in Microsoft Office and other applications, such as Share Point, including a basic understanding of database software is a plus. A proven track record of developing consumer focused products, growth in existing brands, innovative product concepts as well as cost saving measure throughout their career. Ability to travel 20% to our US based plants for projects / plant trials.
