Profile

The purpose of this position is to acquire expertise in bioaccumulation, biodegradation, ecotoxicology, and environmental risk assessment to support new fragrance and flavour molecules R&D; product global registration; and customer interactions. The incumbent will be part of the global toxicology and risk assessment team and will work together with the rest of the team members to support the above-mentioned activities as an internal expert in environmental toxicology.
The incumbent will be:
1) a technical expert in bioaccumulation, biodegradation, ecotoxicology and environmental risk assessment
2) asked to stay current on global regulatory requirements and trends in environmental toxicology
3)asked to interface with industry trade associations as a company technical representative in areas of environmental toxicology
4) the GRA liaison for other required toxicology group functions (e.g. Flavor R&D;, RIFM, IFRA, etc.)
Geographic Scope of the role: GLOBAL
Key Responsibilities:
50% - Technical expert in supporting R&D; projects. Specifically, the incumbent is expected to develop an environmental fate and safety evaluation program for encapsulation programs, lead in vitro methods in bioaccumulation assessment to support new fragrance molecules R&D; and product registration, explore technical advancements to meet corporate sustainability goals in reducing environmental stability of new fragrance molecules.
30% - GRA liaison for other toxicology-related areas. As an example, the incumbent could work closely with Flavors R&D; staff and management to understand business priorities and toxicology and regulatory challenges of new flavor molecules. He/she will bring this knowledge to the GRA organization and allow adequate GRA support to the Flavors R&D; organization. Similar functional responsibility may be relevant for other liaison roles as needed.
10% - Global registration. Specifically, the incumbent will support global registration of IFF products via his/her expertise in environmental toxicology and environmental risk assessment, especially for challenging regulatory programs such as EU REACH and US TSCA.
5% - Representing IFF as the technical interface with trade associations in the areas of environmental toxicology.
5% - Representing IFF to directly work with technical counterparts in customer companies to assist their environmental safety evaluation programs.
Required Skills
Essential:
Recent PhD graduate in environmental sciences, ecotoxicology, or related disciplines; OR
Bachelor or Master Degrees in chemistry, biology, or related disciplines and minimum 7 years of demonstrated work experience in environmental sciences and regulatory areas.
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, including strong verbal and written skills in English.
Preferred:
Postdoctoral training in environmental fate and safety-related disciplines
Regulatory experience in fragrances and flavors industry
Experience in environmental risk assessment
Research experience in chemical biodegradation
Experience in conducting or directing environmental safety studies
Working experience in a GLP environment
