Job Description
The Advanced Concepts Lab (ACL) at Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) is seeking a senior software engineer to support research and software development in the cyber security domain. ACL is ATL’s center of excellence for independent and contract research and development for the classified and intelligence communities. ACL nurtures this growth by meeting the very specialized technology goals and security requirements of our classified customers while providing an environment where our technical talent can flourish beyond the leading edge.
The selected candidate will join an existing team developing multiple projects under contract. The selected candidate is expected to grow into a leadership position such as release lead, project lead, or program deputy lead engineer. The selected candidate’s day-to-day work will require hands-on software design, development, debugging, and testing. Leadership roles will additionally require that the selected candidate participate in various customer meetings, assist or mentor junior engineers, and review the work of junior engineers for ability to meet requirements, technical soundness, and adherence to program standards.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
* Strong programming skills in C – ability to understand and program using complex, in-memory data structures is a must
* Experience programming in assembly (particularly MIPS, PowerPC, ARM, x86, or x64) – experience programming in assembly in an educational or hobbyist environment may be considered
* Significant experience developing and debugging software in a Linux environment (gcc, make, and gdb or ddd)
* Demonstrated track record of solid software design and development of quality, maintainable software
* Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
* Experience with the full software development life cycle
* Ability to perform well under aggressive program technical challenges and goals
* Applicants must possess a current Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
Desired skills
* Understanding of common embedded processor architectures and programming experience in assembly on those architectures (MIPS, PowerPC, or ARM; x86 or x64 also a plus)
* Programming skills in C (object-oriented), Python, shell scripting (e.g., bash)
* Familiarity with embedded debugging tools (JTAG emulator, oscilloscope, logic analyzer)
* Familiarity with hardware or software reverse engineering
* Familiarity with IP subnetting and routing
* Exposure to operating system kernel programming (to include device drivers)
* Experience selecting and/or troubleshooting hardware in an embedded environment
* Professional experience or educational background in computer engineering
* Demonstrated ability to lead a small (2-4 person) team
* Experience with cyber/computer network operations.
* Basic understanding of cost/schedule/scope tradeoffs
* Strong desire to understand how things work and why systems behave as they do, discover what assumptions were made as systems were developed, and develop schemes to invalidate those assumptions
* Student of “Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams,” “The Pragmatic Programmer,” and “The Mythical Man Month”
* Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
