Position Summary:Berkeley Lab's Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division is looking for a Computational Biologist to work on the development of computational and experimental methodologies for Fluctuation X-ray Scattering (FXS; ****and associated biophysical techniques, such as SAXS/WAXS and Single Particle diffraction. The candidate will be involved in the development and expansion of the underlying theory of FXS, either as a standalone technique or in a hybrid capacity, and will aid in its practical deployment.Specific Responsibilities:Develop Python/C /CUDA based software for automated data processing of FXS dataExtend the theoretical foundation of FXSDevelop new FXS theory as part of a ‘hybrid method’Analyze experimental dataDevelop and improve experimental protocols on the basis of data analysesCollaborate with external researchers on the analyses of FXS and single particle scattering data Additional Desired Responsibilities:Keep an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook.Summarize experiment results in reports and papers submitted for publication and present analysis results at scientific meetings.Attend and present data at group meetings. Required Qualifications:PhD in Biophysics, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or a related fieldProgramming experience in Python/C Basic skills and understanding of applied mathematics, statistics and scattering theoryExperience using PC, Mac and/or UNIX operating systemsExcellent interpersonal skills for working in a diverse team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings at group meetings and conferences and publish resultsStrong organizational and record keeping skills to record experiment results and analyze dataAbility to interact with a variety of technical and scientific personnel including Research Associates, Scientists and Software Engineers Additional Desired Qualifications:Experience in experimental synchrotron and FEL sciencesPractical knowledge of CUDAPractical knowledge of the CCTBX libraries The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for full consideration, please apply by close of business on April 1, 2016.Notes: Berkeley Lab understands the postdoctoral experience in a research environment is unique.
