Profile

Job Summary To respond to the needs of value-based healthcare systems, Healthtrust is developing a robust clinical data system. This system will connect purchasing and utilization data on medical devices, supplies and pharmaceuticals from >20% of the US acute care market to clinically relevant outcomes associated with the procedures in which those supplies are used. The goal of this system is to provide HealthTrust partners and internal stakeholders (such as contracting teams, clinical and physician advisory boards) with data that connects utilization decisions to clinical outcomes, thereby allowing for value based sourcing, contracting and utilization. The HealthTrust clinical data system will be a key asset in implementing a clinical enabled supply chain. The Clinical Data Scientist will lead the effort to develop and launch this clinical data system by working with TI, Business Solutions, Clinical Data Solutions (CDS) and InVivoLink to create one integrated system. The Data Scientist will also work with the InVivoLink team on further developing their spine and orthopedic surgical registry with a focus on research and analytics, making data actionable and data quality and reliability. Role will include assisting in specific clinical research projects, but also unstructured data discovery.
Key Responsibilities The Clinical Data Scientist is responsible for providing leadership and support for the development and implementation of HealthTrusts integrated clinical data system. Clinical Data scientist will work with multiple stakeholders within HealthTrust including InVivoLink leadership and CDS leadership.
The role of the data scientist is to use mathematics, programming and visualization to discover, in partnership with the business, opportunities and insights arising from HealthTrust data systems. This role is firmly customer facing, with an expectation of constant contact, communication and iteration with both clinical and business customers to define questions, explore solutions and present results. As such the data scientist must be comfortable and capable of clearly communicating the nature and results of complex analytics to non-technical users in written, spoken and visual means.
On the technical front the data scientist must be comfortable with `data wrangling`. That is, the ability to identify, and extract raw data from primary transactions systems such as databases. Thereafter they must possess basic skills in programming to manage, transform and integrate with other datasets, in preparation for analytics. Typically, this is performed in scripting languages such as Python.
Duties (included but not limited to):
Assisting in the development of software and custom scripts to automate data input, data retrieval, manipulation, and analysis; application of statistics, and visualization tools
Partners with colleagues and customers to achieve meaningful discussions regarding data outputs and feedback on usage activities to improve CDS and InVivoLink output.
Managing key processes involved in IT infrastructure design, database design, interface design, and information processing for value-based product utilization initiatives.
Maintaining large-scale clinical databases and preparing data for utilization by other scientists/physicians
Monitoring new data from public databases and cleaning loaded data to satisfy quality control criteria
Conduct undirected research and frame open-ended industry questions
Communicate findings to management and IT departments through effective data visualizations and reports
Broaden skillset from initial to complementary: developers will hone skills in the basics of statistics/machine learning and statisticians will hone skills in programming and databases.
