POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director of Medical Physics and at the direction of the Radiation Oncologists, provides optimized computerized treatment planning documents to Radiation Oncologists for review and selection. Confers with Radiation Oncologists regarding patient disease to provide an optimal treatment plan. Works within the framework of the Departments of Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology to ensure the safe and accurate delivery of radiation as prescribed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists Radiation Oncologists in defining and localizing beam coverage and target volumes.
Performs treatment machine calibration, IMRT and 3-D conformal treatment planning and validation, as well as HDR brachy therapy and the administration of therapeutic iodine-131 treatment.
Works with and consults with other physics, physician, dosimetry, therapist, and administrative staff in the implementation of IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, and other new treatment protocols.
Performs treatment planning and QA for all brachytherapy procedures.
Participates in chart-checking and rounds as well as implementation of electronic medical record.
Performs Quality Assurance testing for all procedures requiring it.
Assists in radiation safety program and may be asked to conduct training.
Ensures documentation is complete and satisfies state requirements.
Performs wipe-test area surveys where necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Requires the ability to plan and perform complex work which involves new or constantly changing problems where there is little accepted method or procedure.
Involves participation in the formulation and carrying out of policies, objectives and programs for major divisions or functions.
Considerable ingenuity and exceptional judgment required to deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results and make decisions carrying a great deal of responsibility.
Knowledge of departmental and hospital safety policies and infection control policies and procedures.
Knowledge of departmental and hospital confidentiality policies pertinent to patient information and hospital data.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and positive working relationships within the department, with other employees and the public.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
Education:
Master's or Doctoral degree in Medical Physics required.
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience or have completed a CAMPEP-Approved Residency program required.
