Health Scientist Administrator Jobs description
Health scientist administrators work under the National Institutes of Health to ensure that funds allocated for biomedical and behavioral sciences research conducted by universities, medical schools and non-federal research organizations, are utilized properly. It is the responsibility of a health scientist administrator to ensure that federal funds are used properly and wisely.
Health scientist administrator job responsibilities involve evaluating the scientific merits of grant applications, studying current status of basic, clinical and translational research programs, conducting site visits to assess training and research facilities of applicants, providing scientific and technical assistance to grantees, defining goals for health research programs and identifying the services and resources needed for such programs. Other duties include acting as spokesperson for agency programs, implementing congressional mandates and participating in seminars and national conferences.
Minimum qualification required for a health scientist administrator job is a bachelor’s degree in health sciences or in similar fields. Master’s degree or PhD may be required for senior and supervisory positions. Proficiency in computers and excellent communication skills are also important.
