Geologist Jobs

A geologist is a scientist who studies the origin, history and structure of the earth. Geologists may be divided into 5 groups, namely general geologist, engineering geologist, geohydrologist, paleontologist and geophysicist. Geologist job openings are generally available with mining companies, consulting companies, oil and gas exploration companies and civil engineering firms.
Documentation of geological information such as the distribution of various rocks and minerals is the most important duty of a geologist. A geologist applies his knowledge of science and mathematics to help locate mineral and petroleum deposits and underground water resources. Geologists also study soil and rock samples in order to ensure that dams, tunnels and large buildings are built in suitable sites at minimum costs. Geologists may also study fossils to determine the factors that led to extinction and origin of species. Other geologist job duties may include preparing geologic maps and reports, conducting environmental studies, interpreting research data and preparing environmental reports.
Minimum qualification required for a geologist job opening is a bachelor’s degree in geology or a related field. A master’s degree is required for advancement in the field.
